Pupils at HFJS have half an hour of French lessons a week and follow the Classroom Secrets scheme and resources. The focus of these lessons is to foster a love, curiosity and appreciation for learning a new language. Key stage two modern foreign language lessons are predominately laying the foundations for further language teaching at key stage 3. We don’t expect our pupils to be fluent French speakers by the end of year 6, however we do expect them to have had fun learning new words and finding out about the similarities and differences of French culture. During their time at HFJS, children will be given the opportunity to listen to, read, write and speak French at an age appropriate level and the focus is on practical communication.
