PSHE at HFJS enables our children to become healthy, independent, and respectful members of society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social, and cultural issues that are part of growing up in modern Britain. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and to appreciate what it means to be a responsible member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to become curious, creative, and confident learners who develop their sense of self-worth by interacting and building healthy relationships in the school and wider community.

Using the scheme, Jigsaw, the topics are:

Being Me in My World - allows the children to spend time valuing themselves and their achievements. It encourages them to look at how they fit in to the school community and gives them the opportunity to explore and appreciate the positive school community that they belong to.

Dreams and Goals – offers the children the chance to explore the dreams and goals of people from all walks of life. Alongside this, the children will start to recognise their own dreams and goals for both now, and the future.

Celebrating Differences – explores the culturally diverse country and world that we live in. It will allow the children to recognise their own identities and help them to celebrate not only their similarities to others, but also their differences.

Healthy Me – allows the children to learn about creating and maintaining healthy bodies and minds. The children will discuss healthy eating, keeping safe, wellbeing and mindfulness.

Relationships - explores the different relationships we encounter with themselves, family, friends, peers and strangers. It focuses on developing healthy relationships both in school, and in the wider community. This will also include keeping safe online.

Changing Me – During this unit, the children will learn about their own body, the differences between boys and girls, the physical and emotional changes they will experience as they grow into adults and how and why babies are made. Our aim is to provide children with age-appropriate information; to empower them to make positive decisions throughout their lives.
