Welcome To Year 4

In Year 4 you will find three enthusiastic and hard-working classes belonging to: Mrs McGee & Mrs Vega, Mrs Staniforth & Mrs Henderson and Mrs Spencer-Smith. Working alongside us this year will be Mrs Oslar, Miss Douglas and Ms Miller, our lovely Teaching Assistants. We are all looking forward to the year ahead and have some wonderful topics and learning planned for the children.

Over the year, the children will be exploring our creative curriculum topics:

  • Invasion: Our first project will teach the children about life in Britain after the Roman withdrawal. Children will learn about Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasions up to the Norman conquest. This will include discovering about Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, beliefs and customs; religion; everyday life in Anglo-Saxon and Viking Britain; significant people like King Athelstan and King Alfred the Great; Norman invasion and the legacy of Anglo Saxons and Vikings on our lives today.

  • Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers: This will be our project for the Spring term. Here we will teach the children about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them. We will also explore maps; grid references; compass points; the water cycle and soil.

  • Ancient Egypt: Our final project teaches children about the history of one of the world’s first ancient civilisations: Ancient Egypt. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of the Egyptian civilisation. The children will explore artefacts; timelines; new inventions and technology; everyday life; social hierarchy and significant leaders including Kings and Pharaohs.

We love to immerse ourselves in our learning and invite visitors into school to bring the creative curriculum to life through workshops and wow days as well as taking the children out trips to the local area and beyond.
